Laduree
The Ladurée story began in 1862 when Louis Ernest Ladurée opened a bakery in Paris at 16 rue Royale. Today Laduree has shops all over the world with two in Vancouver & this one at Yorkdale is the first in Toronto.
❤️ I’m so excited Ladurée has finally made it’s way to Toronto! Despite the news about the long line on the opening day, I went because I have been to several other Ladurée locations. It is like an old friend to me. How can you not meet when an old friend is in town? (even tho it’s a one-way relationship 😂😂) There is a single line for eat-in & take-out, so the line may seem long but it moves fast. I was lucky there were only like 15 people ahead of me and we were seated within 20mins. It was 2pm on a Friday, so go on a week day if you can. . 🇫🇷 While in line, we chatted with greeter Adrien (as seen in the pic here). He is French from a town near EuroDisney in Paris, and he came to Canada only six months ago. His French accent immediately brought me back to Paris. You see how Ladurée is giving patrons the total french experience from the time they line up, so sweet.
❤️ If anyone understands the importance of presentation, it is the French. Look at their architectural wonders like Chateau de Versaille, Notre-Dame de Paris or Mont St Michel. One of my favourite Christmas activities in Paris is checking out the window displays at the big department stores like Galeries Lafayette and Printemps. They are no ordinary static window displays. There’s a lot of moving objects & stuff coming out of the windows. THEY ARE WOW! It should be on everyone’s bucket list. Back to Ladurée Toronto, they have obviously brought us the total French experience with the gorgeous store design. I really love their neon ‘Macaron’ sign, simple and to the point. Need I say more? . 💰 Macaron ($3.30/piece)
❤️ Look at all the colorful macarons, don’t they make you happy just looking at them? If you thought you couldn’t be happier, wait until you put them your mouth. They’re so good they made me smile from the bottom of my heart. I always found macarons too dense & sweet for my liking, but these ones have totally changed my view. The shell is crunchy on the outside and soft & light on the inside, the filling has the perfect texture & sweetness. Who would have thought this plain little round treat can give so many levels of pleasure? . ⭕️ The macarons come in more than 14 flavours, the Maple Syrup one is only available in Canada and it is my favourite! Be sure to try it. Some are seasonal like the Lime Vanilla, Strawberry Candy “Guimauve”, Hazelnut, Passion Fruit, & Raspberry. Others are available year-round such as Coffee, Pistachio, Rose, Orange Blossom, Licorice, Vanilla, Chocolate, Salted Caramel & Lemon.
❤️ At a place as fancy as this, it is only natural that they serve afternoon tea in style. If you order two sets, all the sweets will be served in a simple and elegant 3-tier rack. Each set comes with three macarons (top tier), a mini tartelette passion framboise, a mini chou praline, a mini delice griotte (middle tier), a financier & a madeleine (bottom tier). The financier & madeleine are to die for! But the thing I love most is actually the whipped cream that comes with it. It’s light & fluffy and complements the financier & madeleine very well. . 💰 Afternoon Tea ($50/set) - 3 macarons, mini tartelette passion framboise / chou praline / delice griotte, financier, madeleine, 2 finger sandwiches, mini croque-monsieur emmental cheese, seasonal fruit salad, and a drink
❤️ Doesn’t this look like every girl’s dream come true? Apart from the sweets, the afternoon tea set also includes two finger sandwiches (smoked salmon, avocado or ham), a mini croque-monsieur emmental cheese, seasonal fruit salad, and a drink (Ladurée coffee, tea or hot chocolate). Tasty & tasteful is a rare breed, and you can find it here at Ladurée.
